What is Naturalization?
U.S. citizenship allows for many rights but also many responsibilities. The decision to become a U.S. citizen is therefore one that should not be taken lightly. Naturalization is the process whereby an alien may become a U.S. citizen. In order for an alien to go through the naturalization process, the alien has to meet certain requirements. Most notably the alien generally needs to be a legal permanent resident over the age of 18 who meets various continuous residence and physical presence requirements.
Special classes of aliens in certain circumstances may be subject to less stringent naturalization requirements.
In order to apply for naturalization, you are required to file Form 400, Application for Naturalization.
