The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that applicants, petitioners, requestors, and beneficiaries may call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283 to request to reschedule biometric services appointments. Previously, the only way to request rescheduling a biometric services appointment scheduled at a USCIS Application Support Center was by mailing a letter to the USCIS.

The earlier policy that such requests had to be made by mail led to substantial delays and uncertainty as to timely receipt and processing of the requests by the USCIS. As of May 11, 2021, a requestor can get immediate confirmation and rescheduling status while speaking via telephone with a USCIS representative.

It is important to note, however, that requestors still must meet certain requirements for placing a request to reschedule. Specifically, the requestor must show good cause for rescheduling, and make the request before the time of the original appointment. If these conditions are not met, the underlying filing may be considered abandoned and, as a result, eventually be denied by the USCIS.
