Immigration officials created a fake university to lure foreign college students into staying in the U.S. under illegal pretenses. 8 students who worked as “recruiters” for the false institution were charged with federal conspiracy earlier this year after they assisted more than 600 students in receiving student visas under false pretenses. These recruiters did not realize their institution was set up by ICE. Some of these recruiters were themselves unaware that this was an illegal immigration scheme. The recruiters will likely receive prison time and be deported. Between January and July, more than 250 student visa holders that were part of this scheme were arrested, with around 80% of them electing to leave the U.S. voluntarily.
