Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf announced on Tuesday that DHS will be conducting a study on how state laws allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses affects immigration enforcement. He wrote in his memo that DHS will need to be “prepared to deal with and counter these impacts as we protect the homeland.” In New York, approximately 265,000 undocumented immigrants are projected to seek licenses under the state’s new law. Other states have similar laws.
