On Tuesday, a Mexican man detained by ICE died while in custody, bringing the total deaths to 8 this fiscal year. ICE officials confirmed the news on Thursday. When ICE staff noticed he was acting confused on September 7, he was brought to the hospital, where the 37-year-old was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and died on September 10. Immigrant advocates believe the increase in deaths has been caused by ICE detaining people they would have released in the past. ICE argues that they are forced due to increased border crossings.
